Don’t just hang a wreath at Christmas, instead hang one all year round! At Easter, celebrate by creating your own willow wreath in the shape of the Easter bunny.

MATERIALS USED:
- 1 large willow or twig wreath BUY HERE
- 1 medium willow or twig wreath BUY HERE
- 2 smaller willow or twig wreaths BUY HERE
- Small pieces of wood (I used the underside of a pallet)
- Flowers
- Wide ribbon
- Green string
- Orange paint
- 4 small metal eye hooks BUY HERE
- Thin gardening wire BUY HERE
- Brown string or jute ribbon
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
- Saw
- Sandpaper
- Paintbrush
- Chisel and hammer
- Small drill
- Glue
- Scissors
- Stapler
- Fishwire
Step 1: Attach the medium wreath on top of the large wreath to form the head and body by tying the wire tightly. I chose to do this in two places to make sure the head sat properly on the body. Cover the wire in green or brown string to cover the wire to make it neater
Step 2: Soak the two small wreaths in hot water overnight to soften the twigs. This will make it easier to bed them into ear shapes without snapping the twigs/willow.
Step 3: When fully soaked, form an ear shape and tie a piece of string around them to hold them in the new position. Leave to dry fully.
Step 4: When dry, attach the ears to the head using wire again and then cover with brown string or jute ribbon. As these joins will be visible it is a good idea to choose something that looks better than green string.
Step 5: Using the saw, cut out carrot shapes from small pieces of wood. It is a good idea for the carrots to be approx. 1 inch deep to give them a good shape
Step 6: Sand down the carrots to give them a smooth finish.
Step 7: Using the chisel and hammer create lines within the carrots on each side to give a more authentic look.
Step 8: Paint the carrots in an orange colour – I used a tester pot to save money. Leave to dry.
Step 9: Using a fine drill bit, drill a tiny hole on the top for the eyelet. I used the eyelets for net curtains. With these added, you can now hang the carrots if you wish
Step 10: Cut out lengths, approx. 6 inches, of green string and tie through the eyelets to create the carrot tops.
Step 11: Cut out a short length of ribbon and tie it around where the head meets the body, covering the wire and string. This can then be fastened at the back using glue, a stapler or you can sew it into position.
Step 12: Create a bow from the ribbon and then attach it to the piece of ribbon already on the wreath using glue or a stapler. This is easier than tying a bow around its neck.
Step 13: Glue the carrots and any flowers onto the wreath. You could also add wooden or plastic Easter eggs or natural foliage too. I added some clear fishwire to hold them in place as I was displaying it outside.
Then, simply hang it on the wall or door. This design could also make 2 separate Easter wreaths – 1 as the bunny head, the other as a circular wreath with the carrots attached all the way around.
