In todays vintage nostalgia blog read all of Your Vintage Life’s ‘Do you Remember’ posts from this week. As ever, we had fun sharing and you had fun commenting! So, what do you remember vintage lovers…?
Who loved having a Snowball at Christmas time (or at any retro party really)? They we all the rage back in the 1970s – a mixture of Adovcaat (a Dutch drink made from eggs, sugar and Brandy) and lemonade in approximately equal parts with a squeeze of lime. They semed so cool and grown up…we tried them again recently but to honest they were a bit sickly!
Who thought they were the height of sophistication serving Arctic Roll at a dinner party back in the day? The ice cream dessert was invented in the 1950s, and during the 1980s more than 25 miles of Birds Eye Arctic Roll were sold each month!!! Cheap and yummy…whats not to love?
Did you shop in Benetton in the 1980s? All that colour, texture and design….hard to imagine that before their ad campaigns it wasn’t usual to see non white people splashed over billboards. Do you remeber the new born baby, the condoms or the kissing Pope campaigns? Shocking, contraversial with expensive products…it soon became the must have brand. A good Saturday was spent unfolding all the folded knitwear in their stores, looking for Saturday nights outfit!
We all loved watching The Flumps on BBC1 back in the late 70s/80s? We watched stories about Posy, Perkin and Pootle and loved Grandpa Flump with his little flat cap! Just one series and 13 episodes were ever made and we must of seen them all at least 20 times during our childhoods.
Do you remember having a leather satchel on your back for school? In fact from the 1940s through to the late 70s this was the norm. We love them now as adults and lots of companies have reissued them in bright colours and design…but a battered red/brown leather one will always be our favourite.
MTV launching in 1981 was a huge deal. A channel showing us pop videos all day? Amazing! The first video shown was aptly The Buggles ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’. Back then the music video was huge…did you watch the premier of Michael Jacksons Thriller mini film or obsess over Peter Gabriels mad Slegehammer vid like we did?
