Tomorrow would have been vintage icon Elvis’ 79th birthday. Elvis Aaron Presley was born in Mississippi, on January 8, 1935. He has sold over one billion records globally – more than any other artist. He also served his country in the U.S. Army. Known the world over by his first name, he is regarded as one of the most important figures of twentieth century popular culture. He sadly died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977.
So todays blog in honour of the birthday of one of the true icons of the 20th century, is five fantastic buys linked to Elvis Presley. All items are available to buy on-line now…
1. Are you a fan of the fresh faced young Elvis and his naughty, ground breaking swivelling hips? These handmade gift boxes made from old record covers are adorable and to quote the Etsy seller aModernSpin – “Each gift box has its own character and its own story to tell from the more happy times of when it was needed, used, and enjoyed. Now, recently resurrected from the dark corners of forgotteness, they may no longer bring a tap to the toe, but they will once again fulfill their duty of bringing a smile to ones face!” We at YVL love that idea and think anyone receiving something in this box would love the wrapping as much as the gift inside.
2. Loved GI Elvis? This fabric passport cover from Etsy depicts his enlistment in the US Army – in the fabric you find a copy of his registration certificate, dog tags, and certificate of service. We love the vintage look but also the detail when you look more closely…
3. If you swooned over leather clad Comeback Special Elvis then this ones for you. A black and white framed image of Elvis in 1968 looking amazing would look great in any vintage loving home.
4. Las Vegas 70’s Elvis in his white jewelled jumpsuit is one of the iconic images of the 20th century. How about an original souvenir menu from the hotel he was performing at? Elvis performed 58 consecutive sold out shows there, breaking all Vegas attendance records and lived in the penthouse suite. Showbiz history in your hands.
5. The dream Elvis buy has got to be a trip around Graceland, Elvis’ beloved home in Memphis. Graceland is not a huge house but is full of amazing memorabilia and has a famous tour which is a must for any Elvis fan. If you really want to have the full experience stay at the Heartbreak Hotel just across the road and live and breathe Elvis for your entire break!
So tomorrow, put on your favourite Elvis tune, raise a glass and remember the amazing talent that was Mr Elvis Presley.
