Are you having a party at home that you want to make a great event? Well, Claire from Waterbaby Flowers did just that recently, by creating a styled birthday party that felt both bohemian and luxurious all at once.
When I saw it on my Instagram feed, I just knew that I wanted to share it. I caught up with Claire to find out more about her influence and drive for the look.
“As the owner of Waterbaby Flowers I’m more used to creating wonderful wedding details for loved up couples across Cambridgeshire, Essex and London but on this occasion I decided to unleash my creativity upon my own 40th birthday party and my own brief, that of a bohemian luxe garden party.
The focal point in my garden is a huge old apple tree so I decided to drape white muslin, a disco ball and festoon lighting through the branches and hang lots of clear test tubes with bright red carnations (the colour of my favourite lipstick) in them for a glamorous but pretty centrepiece.
In the dappled light of the tree I set up a day bed for a comfy place to recline in the sunshine. I also dotted wooden tables dressed with fringed white cotton cloths and rustic log slices topped with vintage coloured glass vases collected in my local thrift shops, overflowing with garden blooms such as dahlias, roses, blackberries and pear branches using my chosen palette of red, white, green and blue for a high summer hit of bright colour.
I served pixie Proseco with straws and beer to welcome guests from an old bar trolley and had my husband build a huge ice bath out of leftover wood planks to keep my guests drinks chilled all afternoon. We also laid on burgers and fries in wooden crates with palm leaf plates to keep up the rustic fuel that I love to bring to events.
At the end of the garden was my vintage style Kissing Booth that I hire out for weddings and events as a cool photo booth with a giant vintage basket full of props including an old sailors hat complete with nickname on the inside!
Also in my garden is my workshop, which I transformed into The Peacock Lounge, a retro styled cocktail bar in greens and golds, featuring a 50s cocktail cabinet filled with vintage colourful glassware and a sign made from sliced wood and some glitter paint. My favourite peacock chair and bamboo bar table and stools were tucked in the corner next to the palm trees and giant cactus poster (his name is Carl by the way) for luxe lounging.
And finally if you were to sneak through the secret back gate following the trail of shepherds hooks hung with tea lights in old jam jars you’d discover a field containing a bell tent carpeted in beautiful rugs all the way from Morocco for the guests travelling from afar to lay their weary heads after one too many cocktails watching the sun set. A magical night was had by all, as we danced in the moonlight under the disco ball, especially this slightly vintage birthday florist!”
One Word: Cool. And maybe, Envy. And Inspired too. Maybe three more, I Love It!
