We’ve had a great week remembering all the things we loved, watched, ate and talked about when we were young! All the photos were posted on our Your Vintage Life Facebook page and you guys shared your memories and added your comments.
Who watched Miami Vice in the 1980s? Crocket and Tubbs…pastel jackets, turned up cuffs, synth music and of course Espadrilles! You remembered fancying them, videoing the episodes and the fact Crocket randomly had a pet crocodile on his boat!
Hands up who remembers eating sweet cigarettes in the 1970s and 80’s? As kids we thought we were so cool pretending to smoke them(although we clearly weren’t) and their teeth breaking hardness and red tips were cleared remembered.
Did you read Jackie in the 1970s/80s? Here at YVL we weren’t allowed! You remembered the photo stories and pull out posters of the “hunks” of the day that got stuck to your bedroom wall. David Essex and Donny Osmond…swoon!
Did you love Captain Pugwash? Some remembered the books, but most the very badly animated cartoon. Lots of debate about the urban myth that the names were rude – they weren’t by the way – Tom the cabin boy and Master Mates would be highly offended!
If you loved Hong Kong Phoey back in the day you weren’t alone. We remembered him running into the filing cabinet as a mild manner janitor to turn into crime fighter Hong Kong Phoey. You remembered acting out Kung Fu moves after watching and mainly getting told off for doing so! Ah, they just don’t make cartoons like this anymore!!
Top of the Pops was a big favourite and much missed. Our Thursday nights were defined by it, who was number 1 and who was on! You remembered trying to get tickets, the Christmas specials and the jealousy when some school friends got to stand next to Gary Davis on TV in one episode.
Another great week of laughter caused by your memories. For more nostalgia make sure to check our Facebook page at 12pm every day – we just love reading your comments and remembering the things we’d forgotten! ‘Like’ our page for lots more vintage inspiration.
