Courtney Love’s collaboration with Nasty Gal: Are you ready to be a Riot Grrrl again?

In the early 1990s, we rocked the underwear as outerwear look courtesy of Courtney Love and her Hole bandmates. It was totally normal to wear a pink silk cami (literally a pink silk cami not a vest top that looked like one) with our cut off shorts, ripped tights and DM boots.

To quote Courtney herself “The boys can take their shirts off when they get hot, so why can’t I?”  When you think about it, it’s kinda true right?

Well this look is back with a bang, and with the UK’s love of all things 1990s still going strong, it was only a matter of time before a brand hooked up with the Riot Grrrl herself to create a new range of fashion.

Nasty Gal (the brand behind #girlboss) and Courtney have collaborated on their first range and boy is it hot! For someone who was there at the time and has soooo many stories I could tell including my boyfriend and the singer of Babes In Toyland (but I won’t for libel reasons) I am not sure I can totally deal with this look. It makes me feel a bit old!!

Courtney describes her range:

“The starting point was lingerie meets real world. We looked at some of my rock-star ’90s stuff and redid that in a more contemporary way. There are two dresses that are modernized from really famous ones I wore back in the day, done in fabrics that are so luxe. It’s such a cool collection: it feels new and slightly nostalgic at the same time.”

But if I was 16 again then hell yeah! Although as I am sure you will agree, a these prices it won’t be 16 year olds buying it. Wasn’t the point of grunge that you created it yourself, from the charity shops and jumble sales?
