12 Must Have Blue Homewares For Your Retro Home

I am all over the colour blue this year; ever since we painted our lounge in Annie Sloan’s Napoleonic Blue to contrast against our Habitat orange velvet sofa and visited Yves Saint Laurent’s simply stunning villa at Marrakesh’s Majorelle Gardens – it has been my colour of choice! Today I wanted to share some amazing interior finds to buy right now to get your blue juices flowing!

Majorelle Gardens – You NEED to visit this!

Let’s start with blue velvet sofas. I love velvet, reminding me of the boho 1970s or the elegant 1930s so works perfectly with a vintage home. We got out our orange one from Habitat so this seemed like a good starting point. They have some great shapes to suit your style, from a one seater up to the 4 seater corner sofa which we have. Shop the velvet sofa collection here (get ready to drool!)

I have decided to stay with Habitat for this blog post as there are so many gorgeous blue homewares that take me back to Morocco! These geometric rugs are fab – and remind me slightly of Spain’s Miro. This one would work perfectly in our lounge. It is called Sunrise and is £120.

I love ceramics and of course all of mine are old, but these two again by Habitat are wonderful. I have added a styled image at the end to show them all together. The blue squares one is called Manuel and is currently £32 in the sale. The textured unusual shape one is called Amur and has 20% off currently online at £20. It is worth saying that they have some wonderful mustard and copper ones too that sit really nicely with these and take me back to Marrakesh.

This basically looks like my lounge! I couldn’t write a blog featuring my favourite blue items from Habitat without featuring this cute ceramic elephant. The shape reminds me of my retro 1970s Midland bank yellow plastic piggy (elephant) bank! This is called Hanti and is £18

These woven baskets look great mixed in with the ceramics and are perfect for dried flowers and grasses or take the lid off and use a planter. These are called Orleans  (£28 in the sale) and Hogan.

I thought this was a side table at first (alas not!) – it is a terrazzo candle holder. I love terrazzo and reckon this would look fab against the other ceramics. It would also look great on an outdoor table. It is called Jose and is £20.

I love a cushion and these shaped cushions look great against all kind of designs. The circle one is called Rosa and is £25, and the triangle one is called Henley and is £25. Check out the rest of their cushions here.

Now let’s move outside with this blue bench and the really cool rectangular planters to recreate the Moroccan feel. Simply add loads of cushions, throws and an outdoor rug. Alas out of stock but you may find it in store.

I am in love with so much of Habitat’s stock – and have always loved it. We had a Habitat wedding list back in the 90s (first wedding!) and I know my parents loved it back in the early days too. They are such an iconic  design brand – did you know they were the first company to bring the UK the duvet, the pasta jar and the paper moon light shade……
