The majority of holidaymakers will opt for the summer when travelling abroad in the hopes of topping up their tan while playing on the beach with their children. Family ski holiday

Skiing has long been a popular winter holiday activity for families looking to spend quality time together and go on an adventure in some truly incredible locations. If you have young children or it’s your first time taking them skiing, there are plenty of resorts that offer beginner-friendly slopes, ski schools, and childcare facilities.

One of the best destinations for families is La Plagne ski resort in France. Not only is it great for skiing all season long but it also features a variety of nursery slopes and beginner runs perfect for little ones. Other activities here include snowboarding, sledging, and ice skating, as well as plenty of après-ski options suitable for all ages, including traditional restaurants, live music, and a swimming pool.

Visit the Christmas markets

When asked what comes to mind when you think of winter, the majority of people would say Christmas. And as any parent knows, this is probably your children’s favourite time of year – what’s not to love about light-up decorations and presents?

While there are various markets dotted around the UK in major cities like Manchester and Leeds, there’s nothing like a trip to another country. Some European cities take Christmas celebrations to a completely new level, featuring hundreds of stalls and incredible attractions. It’s sure to be a magical experience for the whole family.

Popular destinations for Christmas markets include Vienna, Budapest, and Prague. Be sure to try some local delicacies, purchase some novelty gifts for loved ones, and sing along to traditional Christmas carols.

Staycation in a cosy lodge

If you don’t fancy dragging your kids through the airport and would prefer somewhere a little closer to home, why not consider a staycation in a lodge or cabin? There are plenty of beautiful locations to choose from, including the Lake District, Cornwall, the Scottish Highlands, and Edinburgh.

You don’t need to compromise on quality either, with log cabins now coming equipped with features like hot tubs and communal swimming pools. Use your cosy base from which to explore the surrounding area, partaking in activities such as hiking and cycling. Alternatively, you could visit a holiday village, where you have a range of accommodation and activities directly on your doorstep. All the hard work’s done for you here – all you need to do is turn up and get exploring.
