Recently I have been busy pinning Valentine’s Day gift ideas and crafts, and have noticed how many fab ideas for gift wrapping there is. So I thought I would give some of them a go, using oddments of wallpaper, wrapping paper, felt, buttons and ribbons that I have left over from Christmas and other craft projects.
Valentine’s day anything has to be red, right? I love using brown paper for wrapping presents as any decorations simply pop out at you. Using an offcut of some vintage newspaper left from my latest project for Reloved Magazine (out in April) I have then added a heart cut from red felt. Finished off with a vintage button, the parcel looks cute.
I like layering papers and this time I have used red striped paper from Christmas. The white paper is actually the same but inside out to give contrast and a pop of colour when you open it!
Lastly, I have cut out red hearts using a heart shaped punch and threaded them to silver thread. The kids joined in with these, so it was a family affair!
If red isn’t your thing and you want something more girlie, then choose pink! I used offcuts of pink polka dot wallpaper and layered on a vintage Valentine’s Day card. This was simply printed off from a google search, then attached to a piece of thin card so it holds its shape.
Silver looks great with pink so I used old scraps of Christmas trim. I made a paper wreath a few years back using print outs like this: find out how here. My kids were still, at this point, cutting out hearts using the punch so I glued them onto a plain brown parcel. Simple effect really.
Using black paper always looks great for presents, especially for men. Here I have used offcuts of black and gold wallpaper with “vintage gents” images on such as pocket watches and bowler hats. Layering this with gold ribbon and a punched heart finishes the look.
Layering again over brown paper ensuring a key image is central is another look, edged with finer gold ribbon.
Finally how about adding a Polaroid print of the two of you together or a great quote? I love this by Kurt Cobain:
“They laugh at me because I’m different. I laugh at them because they’re are all the same”.
I enjoyed wrapping these but the question is, I wonder if anyone will wrap me a present like this!?
