With London Fashion Week everywhere and the dramatic change in weather, its hard to not be getting excited at the moment about getting some Autumn pieces to spruce up your Autumn/Winter 13 vintage wardrobe. Whether its vintage or just vintage inspired there are some amazing fashion items out there 10 of which we’ll showcase in today’s blog. All are available on-line NOW!
1. The first thing you need when the weather changes is a great coat – invest wisely and it will last you season after season. For A/W13 pink is everywhere with Zara, French Connection and M&S all doing great new versions. For vintage think fun with a brighter pink which works best in smaller doses. This pure wool 80’s short coat from ASOS Marketplace is definitely a winner.
2. A wool dress will see you through the chillier seasons and a forties cut is flattering, elegant and very feminine. This vintage day dress is fabulous and will make you feel like you’re from a different age.
3. Plaid checks are key for A/W13 and works great in vintage pieces. If you’re a bit cautious about going full on check, a waistcoat works really well especially when layered with knitwear and outerwear. This cute waistcoat from The Frockery would brighten up any Autumnal day.
4. Leather as ever is huge this Autumn – whether it be a jacket or skirt or shorts it works so well. Vintage pieces can be sourced quite easily but for me a smarter piece is best bought new. M&S create classic pieces with a contemporary edge using the best quality leather. This pencil skirt is making us swoon –
5. Angora knits are soft, fluffy and so cosy – a vintage piece need care when washing etc. but will make you feel cute as a button! Ice cream shades can look adorable but for a classic piece go for good old black like this one from Beyond Retro.
6. For a fitted look, cigarette style trousers create a fabulous 50’s silhouette and are very flattering. If you don’t want to wear jeans but introduce a bit of denim these stretch denim pants are the way to do it. Betty Draper here we come…
7. To brighten up those dull days how about a red fitted coat? Its great to be able to co-ordinate your coat with your outfit (or weather) and this one made from lightweight Worsted twill is really smart.
9. A sure sign summer is over is when you pull out your polo neck jumpers and they are a wardrobe staple that will never let you down. For Autumn look for burnt orange, plums, winter white and chocolate browns as well as classic greys and blacks. Brora make the most wonderful cashmere knitwear made at their our mill in the Scottish borders that has been producing cashmere for over 200 years. A cowl neck polo is an investment purchase but cost per wear will be worth it.
10. Finally, it’s always exciting to treat yourself to a stand out designer piece and this vintage Escada jacket from the 80’s is just WOW!
