Last Saturday, we popped into Bedford to enjoy the cinema, Pizza Express but also to see a new exhibition called Nostalgia, featuring the photography of Jez Brown and styling of Sarah Dunn from Sarah’s Doo-Wop Dos.
The model October Divine is the face of Nostalgia
It is a stunning exhibition of 1930s inspired black and white portraits, reminiscent of the golden era of Hollywood. All take you back in time, but have all been shot much more recently.
This exhibition marks a milestone in a long-standing partnership between Jez and Sarah, with a body of work, spanning the last five years, that pays perfect homage to a bygone era of style and glamour, heavily influence by portraits of stars such as Jean Harlow, Veronica Lake and Barbara Stanwyck. They are also the team behind Vintage Life’s hair styling tutorials which so many of you will have been inspired by.
Jez says, ” We are delighted to be bringing this exhibition to the Animal Studios, it’s the perfect space for us to display this project. The exhibition is something new and exciting for me as I have never exhibited my work before so it’s a completely new venture and I wouldn’t be producing the kind of work I am to today without Sarah alongside me.”
Personally I love the simplicity yet glamour of the black and white photography, and that these images really look like they could have been taken 80 years ago. Knowing some of the models too, it is great to see them styled in this way (although many of them look this glamorous every day!)

Sarah continues, “I’m very excited to be involved with this project and have had the pleasure of working with Jez Brown for several years now. Having watched his work go from strength to strength, I think this body of work is his best yet and I’m very excited to share it with the public.”

Framed prints and limited edition art prints will be available to purchase throughout the exhibition and Sarah will be demonstrating how she created one of the vintage hair and make-up looks from the show on the evening of Thursday July 2nd at the gallery, allowing the public a chance to learn some of her styling tips and tricks.
The ‘Nostalgia’ exhibition will take place from Saturday June 27th to Saturday July 4th at the Animal Studios
