There’s no time like the past as Discover Vintage is thrilled to present the 4th year of the Festival of Vintage in York. And it’s this weekend so really there’s no time like the present to put it in your diary.
Get dressed up in favourite vintage attire and step back in time to revel in the glamour and allure of the magical golden era as Festival of Vintage celebrates the sights and the sounds of the 1930’s through to the 1960’s.
Taking place at York racecourse on the weekend of 26th and 27th April, visitors can enjoy a full festival of activity featuring Music, Dance, and Fashion offering a true 20th century vintage experience. Recognised as one of the UK’s leading Vintage Festivals receiving thousands of visitors from across the UK each year the Festival offers so much to see and do.
Enjoy live music from Wartime classics to Swing & Rock & Roll with an impressive line-up that includes internationally renowned five piece jive band The Swing Commanders, 50’s style rockabilly band Danny & The Swamp Men, 1940’s Sweetheart; Natasha Harper & Winner of the National Vintage Awards Best performer Bexi Owen to name just a few. There are 12 acts across 2 stages offering music that spans across decades, just perfect for dancing.
Take advantage of the free dance lessons with Major Swing & GI Jive offering a chance to have-a-go and learn some new steps, choose 1940s jive, triple time lindy hop, jitterbug stroll.
Festival organiser Keeley Harris says “This event has grown each year and the best bit for me is seeing so many people who have dressed in vintage, the outfits are truly amazing”
Vintage Fashion forms a huge part of the weekend with daily fashion parades showing the timeless style throughout the decades as well as a fantastic Vintage bridal shows from York based Glory Days Vintage. A vintage beauty parlour gives a chance for the complete the look and the Best Dressed competition offers a chance to win £100 cash prize if you strut your stuff down the catwalk and impress the expert judging panel.
Explore displays of classic vehicles on the concourse with Cars, Bikes & Caravans lined up for the Best in Show. Or head to the nostalgia hall and relive bygone days, meeting vintage enthusiasts in collector’s corner showing off Jukeboxes, Gramophones and Radios as well as a one person’s exceptional collection of Royal Memorabilia.
New for 2014, celebrate 50 years of Mod Culture and the Swinging Sixties with MOD DJ’s and Northern Soul Dance Lessons, as well as Mary Quant original fashion, scooters and displays.
The Vintage Shopping Arcade bring together over 150 dealers from across the UK, showcasing the best of vintage Fashion, Ceramics, Textiles, Music, Toys & Furniture. Many of the traders have been collecting rare and unusual items for months to showcase for the first time. A truly nostalgic time capsule of stunning items from four vintage decades.
The Festival of Vintage is a spectacular event not to be missed with entry £10 per adults per day and under 16’s Free. Doors open 10am-5pm Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th April at York Racecourse, YO23 1EX
