Get the Look: Vintage Wallpaper

Decorating with vintage or retro wallpaper can really uplift a room. But then again it can really date or darken a room so getting it right is essential. Jane and Jerry from Potton in Bedfordshire have definitely got it right in our opinion.

The first room that we love has an orange reproduction wallpaper by  Graham & Brown called ‘Trippy’.  It shouts of the late 1960s/early 1970s and fits their room perfectly. Jane describes her the influences for the orange room,  “My mum gave me her G-Plan 70’s sideboard whilst she was downsizing, and everything else fell into place around this.” They have filled the room with orange and brown accessories to highlight the pattern including a vase bought from us here at Your Vintage Life.

The bright teal coloured swivel chair contrasts and simply pops out in this room.

The second room downstairs is decorated with original wallpaper from the 1970s.

The brown wallpaper in the lounge is vintage bought from eBay. ‘Fogarty Room Makers’ is a brown plain paper and they chose duck egg blue paint to complement it. The retro mirror hanging sideways focuses your eye to the fireplace mantlepiece.

This colour choice was  inspired by their Hornsea Tapestry coffee pot and sugar bowl, which was Jerry’s mothers.

We love the retro film posters: this adds a real sense of fun and personality to the room.
The 2 rooms sit really well together as they have taken the same colour scheme and run it through the whole space. This means they can move their accessories around as they buy more, as well as making the space seem calm even though the patterns are large. We think teal and orange work so well together (we have this in our living room too!) and by adding teak furniture in atomic shapes such as the coffee table, the look is coherent.
Thanks guys for letting us feature your room….we love it!
