There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a clean home. But sometimes, even after you’ve gone over your place with a fine-toothed comb, there are still areas that feel unclean. That’s because dirt and dust can build up in all sorts of nooks and crannies, and regular cleaning may not be enough to get rid of it. So if you’re looking for a deep clean that will leave your home sparkling from top to bottom, read on for some tips.
Kitchen
One of the most important places to deep clean is the kitchen. This is where you prepare food, so it’s crucial to make sure that surfaces are free from bacteria. Start by giving your fridge a thorough cleaning; remove everything from the shelves and wash them with hot, soapy water. Then wipe down the inside of the fridge with a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water. This will help to get rid of any lingering bacteria. I also find investing in fridge drawers has helped, not only with organisation but with cleaning too.
Oven
Next, move on to the oven. Again, start by removing everything from the inside; this includes the racks if they’re removable. Next, give the interior of the oven a good scrub with hot, soapy water, paying special attention to any built-up grease or food residue. Once you’re finished, put everything back in and give the outside of the oven a good wipe-down. The trick for me is to wipe it down after every use to avoid the build-up of grease.
Floors
If you have tile floors, now is a good time to deep clean them as well. Start by sweeping or vacuuming to remove any surface dirt or debris. Then, mop the floor with a solution of hot water and vinegar. This will help to remove any stubborn dirt or grime.
Carpets
Don’t forget to deep clean your carpets. Vacuum them thoroughly, paying special attention to high-traffic areas. If they still look dirty, you may need to rent a steam cleaner to get rid of all the embedded dirt and grime.
Furniture
If you have upholstered furniture, it’s important to vacuum it on a regular basis to remove dust and dirt. But every once in a while, it needs deeper cleaning. Start by removing all the cushions and pillows; then vacuum the surface of the furniture, paying special attention to any crevices or cracks. This will help keep your sofa looking clean and new. Once you’re finished, put everything back in place and enjoy your clean furniture. I have throws on mine because I have two dogs which means the sofa is cleaner underneath; however, I still wash the throws and vacuum it as it is surprising how dust and dirt gets everywhere!
Windows
Windows tend to get pretty grimy, especially if they’re located in a high-traffic area. To clean them properly, start by closing the blinds or curtains. Then, using a solution of vinegar and water, wash the windows with a sponge or cloth. Don’t forget to clean the frames and sills as well! Once you’re finished, open up the blinds or curtains and let in some fresh air.
Deep cleaning your home can be a big job, but it’s worth it for the peace of mind that comes with knowing your home is truly clean. By following these tips, you can ensure that every nook and cranny is sparkling clean.
