Making decorations with the children can be fun and can make a great gift for the grandparents or even teachers this festive season. This month’s craft ideas are simple to make and need very few items to bring them alive (plus they look good too!).Today I am sharing how to make a Christmas Tree using Kilner Jar lids or seals (yesterday I shared how to make a tree using the screw bands).
MATERIALS USED:
- Kilner jar lid seals (that go inside the screw bands)
- Spray paint
- Fine ribbon or cotton
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
- PVA glue
- Paintbrush
- Printer
- Computer
- Paper
- Scissors
- Dust mask
- Punch
- Hammer
- Piece of wood
HOW TO MAKE THIS PROJECT
Step 1: In a well ventilated area, wearing a dust mask, carefully spray each lid. Ensure you spray the sides too. Leave to dry.
Step 2: Spray a second coat, then when dry repeat on the back.
Step 3: Choose photos for the baubles and print.
TOP TIP:
Black and white images look best (colour photos can be edited to black and white in Power Point). Illustrations make a great alternative to photos and you can find free illustrations online.
Step 4: Cut out the images ensuring they are smaller than the lids.
Step 5: Glue into position using PVA glue, and then cover the whole lid with the glue. Leave to dry.
TOP TIP:
It looks great if you position the image on one side rather than central. If making more than one, try and attach the photos in various positions.
Step 6: Place the bauble onto a piece of wood and create a small hole by hammering the punch.
Step 7: Thread the cotton or ribbon through the hole and hang.
