I recently bought this amazing 1970s vintage maxi dress from a local vintage shop. I fell in love with it straight away; the colours and pattern slightly reminding me of William Morris. It is a needlecord, in a deep green colour with large mustard flowers and a frill neckline.
But there was one thing holding me back. It was not the price (it was only £15!) but it was because it was a long sleeve maxi dress which made me ask the question: can you wear a vintage maxi dress in autumn and winter?
Sounds silly doesn’t it as let’s face it, we can wear what the hell we want, whenever we want. But maxi dresses in my mind are for the height of summer and not the depths of winter.
I wore it with my navy blue Lotta From Stockholm clogs (the ones I broke my foot in!) and will add some opaque tights. I also has my bakelite bangles on and my 1960s lucite handle bag.
It does look a bit odd with a coat to be honest, but it looks great with a leather jacket. And I reckon when it gets really cold I will wear a polo neck underneath to keep extra warm.
What do you think? Can I wear a vintage maxi dress in autumn/winter?
