Beat the Monday Blues, Part 5

Beat the Monday blues by checking out something or someone we love. Here at Your Vintage Life, we feel it is important to share great finds with you all as well as support local business.

So this Monday, I introduce to you the fabulous Rockalily lipsticks by ReeRee Rockette.

So I have been following them on Twitter for some time, and what seems like everyday, someone tweets about these amazing lipsticks. Now I know a vintage lady loves a red lippy but it felt like there was a club out there that I didn’t belong to. And I wanted to!

However, even though I am a lover of vintage, those that know me will point out that I spend half my life without any makeup at all. NO MAKEUP! I hear you cry in disbelief that a vintage lady would leave the house without a slick of liquid eyeliner and a well applied red lipstick! I live a double life when it comes to slap……half the week I’m well dressed, with a mass of eye liner and mascara, the rest I’m a mummy, juggling running a business from home, renovating a house, feeding the chickens, so makeup doesn’t get a look in.

UNTIL LAST WEEK! Since Friday I have had Rockalily Roulette Red lips.

Firstly, the website. For me choosing make up online is a new experience. Surely you would want to try it on to see if it suits first? Well actually the website is really helpful as well as looking great. The range isn’t extensive which makes shopping simple. Each lippy (there are 4 core shades with a limited edition special range on top) has a description that guides you through the selection process. Roulette Red is great for pale skins as it is blue based, which also means it should make your teeth whiter. They have fab names too: Mans Ruin being my favourite. ReeRee was also helpful on Twitter suggesting the best ones for my skin tones. She has even done a short video putting on all of them so you can see what they look like.

So having purchased, the lippy arrived in a black envelope (brilliant piece of branding where the jiffy bag matches the packaging). The sticker on the outside said “Life is too short not to wear red lipstick”, and boy were they right!

Inside I opened the box to reveal a slinky, stylish lipstick. The lipstick itself smelt gorgeous…vanilla I think.

It applies beautifully and stays on!!!! They all contain Vitamin E ensuring they don’t dry your lips out.  It didn’t come off all around my wine glass but did slightly come off on my son’s face when kissing him good night (much to Herbies delight!).

I havent been this excited about lipstick since the late 90s when I discovered Mac.  Back then I worked in central London, and when I was down or hormonal or stressed or needed an excuse I used to visit the make up hall at Harvey Nichols. I bought great coloured eye shadows and lipsticks…I never imagined I would buy the same online without trying it.

But I did. And I will again. Next stop is Pompadour Pink. I love bright pink but have never found one that didn’t make me look a tad scary with very yellow teeth! Here’s hoping I will be as happy!
