How To Make A Simple Christmas Card Peg Holder

Create your own Christmas card tree pegs to hang your Christmas cards with this year, using only 4 items – most of which you may have already hanging around the house. This is a great craft activity to do with the kids, adding optional glitter of course!

Materials Needed:

  • Wooden clothes pegs GET SOME HERE
  • Strips of paint sample swatch cards (I found some in Homebase)
  • Buttons
  • Ribbon

Equipment Needed:

Step 1: Measure out a triangle shape on the paint swatch cards using a ruler and pencil. Try to position the triangle at one end of the strip so you can create 2 out of every card.

Step 2: Cut out with sharp scissors. The amount needed is totally up to you!

Step 3: Using a clean paintbrush add PVA glue to the peg leaving a cm length free to become the tree base. Glue the card to the peg and leave to dry. Ensure that the top point is higher than the peg top so it cannot be seen.

Step 4: Using the glue again, attach buttons to the top of the tree shape for decoration. You could also add a small bow or glitter.

Step 5: Cut out a length of ribbon (length is up to you!) and position the pegs onto it so that the ribbon sits high up within the peg. You could glue them into place, but I like to be able to move them along the ribbon as some Christmas cards are wider than others.

Step 6: Hang on the wall – it is a good idea to tie each end of the ribbon to something such as a nail so it stays in place.

TOP TIP: If you have any leftover paint swatch cards, you could use them for gift labels using a hole punch to thread the ribbon through. Or use them, also cut into triangles as Christmas cards.
