I have been meaning to share these amazing images from the current exhibition at The Fashion and Textile Museum called Night and Day: 1930s Fashion and Photographs. To be honest i took so many images that if I shared them all there would be no reason for you to go – so instead I am sharing just a few of my favourite looks.
It is on until 20th January so treat yourself this Christmas because if you love 1930s vintage fashion this is a MUST GO TO day out.
The exhibition has many original photographs that capture the time so well but for me it was without a doubt about the vintage fashion. On the ground floor, there are silk dresses at every turn – it was bliss! I love the detailing on them – often we think of the 1930s as pretty simple (bias cut, strappy) but I fell in love with the adornments, the shapes of the sleeves, the draping and the backs!
The colours are divine!
In the entrance there is also a selection of vintage magazine covers from the time – many showing the new love of going to the beach and to the pool with all the amazing leisurewear.
The exhibition starts with black and white fashion taking you from the 1920s into the 1930s.
Upstairs there is a large collection of summer frocks, with a more casual look. Wide brim hats, cottons with pretty prints and pastels.
These were my favourite dresses and reminded me of 1970s dresses (I love brown!) and how the later era borrowed so many looks from the 30s.
The exhibition ended with a red, white and blue theme as the country was led to war.
It is a beautiful exhibition with great eye for detail – so if you love this era you need to go!
