This week I did a photo shoot in the most amazing house in Manchester. It was filled with amazing vintage, beautiful coloured sofas and packed with fun, kitsch homewares without any of it looking kitsch at all! The one thing that struck a chord with me, was the amount of cushions they had everywhere. They were all very eclectic and I loved them all – in fact I now want to buy loads!
So I’ve been busy searching online for some of my favourites, and here are just 10! I’ve also added some styling tips at the end!
1. This is my absolute favourite! It is from Not On The High Street and made by Little Yellow Birds
2. This geometric print from John Lewis will add zing into any room!
3. Another retro style cushion from Hunkydory Home. I have one of their orange ones already but I’m loving this one too!
4. This cushion handmade by Eclectic Chair is made from vintage Barbara Brown Frequency fabric, originally made for Heals.
5. I love the colour combination in this retro style cushion from Next.
6. Now for a more vintage feel…I love this embroidered bird cushion from Marks and Spencer.
7. More birds from Laura Ashley. I love this rectangle shape which helps to break up the look, if all your cushions are square.
8. And for a great budget option, check out cushions from The Range which are all under a tenner!
9. Now for more real vintage. This one by Pineapple Retro is made from vintage children’s fabric but I reckon will look great in my lounge!
10. This cushion from Winter’s Moon is simply glorious. It is made from relaunched fabric by Brie Harrison and is called Nasturtium. This is definitely on my list!
STYLING TIPS
- Try and choose different shapes to group together: squares and rectangles as well as circular cushions work really well together
- Choose a colour palette of three colours and work around these with different patterns and styles.
- Choose feather filled cushions if you can as these plump up really nicely. A trick I use, is to buy horrid designed 1980s feather filled cushions from charity shops then put them inside the covers when they come with synthetic inners. Check the cushion has a zip or opening first before you do this!
- Make your own! A great trick is to back the cushion with a plain fabric so as not to waste your special fabric.
- Make sure you buy some plain ones which I find hard as I’m attracted to pattern. This way you can break up the designs and link your colour palette together.
