Well, last week I received the most amazing news that I have been shortlisted for a prestigious Cosmopolitan Magazine Blog Award for this blog! Not just nominated, but shortlisted! Pleased was an understatement. I was and still am flippin’ overjoyed!
I started this blog over 5 years ago while heavily pregnant with Kitty. I know I’ve said this before, but I was actually designing it during my contractions, probably to take my mind off the pain! I set up the blog initially to support our Your Vintage Life brand, which was our online shop selling vintage homewares and fashion. My friend Kim suggested I started to write a behind the scenes blog to bring more people to the shop. At this point I had NO IDEA why I would want to do this, but like a good girl I got on with it. (Thanks Kim…maybe you should come to the ceremony with me?)
Here I am, 5 years later, with a published book and a brand in my own right. My vintage businesses have over 60, 000 followers on social media, I write regularly for publications and I’m now asked to speak at events as a vintage expert. I have even appeared on the telly! All of this from this blog!
I love writing, I love vintage, I love design, I love fashion but the best bit is getting feedback from my readers telling me that I have inspired them. The blogging world has changed so much over the last few years, with revenue streams changing, patterns changing such as the way people interact, and even more new bloggers out there but this won’t stop me doing what I love. And sharing what I love.
I want so much for it in the future too. It is becoming a hub for all things vintage, a resource. I am being asked to work with amazing brands, both established and breaking through that I cannot wait to share with you. More opportunities are coming my way which I am so grateful for.
So it feels that being shortlisted for this award has come at the right time for me. But now it is over to you! I have to continually ask and plead for votes (something I hate doing) so bear with me! The awards ceremony is in November when we find out the results but until then: Vote For Me!!! It will make me so happy! Together we can do this!
