Spring bulbs in vintage tin planters

I love hyacinths, in fact I love all spring bulbs. So much so, that we buy more and plant more every year. A few years ago, my hubby and I bought 500 spring bulbs each to give for our anniversary present that includes 300 alliums. But my favourites are hyacinths for their beautiful fragrance and the fact that they work so well sitting on your kitchen window sill, in a simple pot.

But last year I forgot to buy any to plant either inside or outside. But never fear, Lidl are selling planted pots of three bulbs for less than £1.50 so I snapped up two pots (I would have bought more but they only had two!)

So where to put them and more importantly how to hide the rather boring pink plastic pot? In years gone by I have planted them in glass jars, food cans with the labels removed as well as in lovely vintage plant pots.

This year i’m going for tins as let’s face it, I have a lot! However I am not going to repot them as the water needed will rust the tin.

So I have found ones where the pot will fit into, so I can pull out to water. They were both made by my parents company in the late 1970s, and were copies of antique tins.

Now all I need is some sunshine! I will take a photograph when they have blossomed so you can see how lovely they are (I wonder what colour they will be?). And the best bit, is when they have finished flowering I can plant in the garden to enjoy next year!
