Our Vintage Life

We’ve had a great two weeks as we have been on holiday!!!

We went to Dorset to go camping in our VW….all was good until we hit Dorset when the weather changed. It rained and rained, the wind howled and I was generally un-amused. We walked off to the pub on our first night in wellies, macs and brollies…not exactly the summer holiday I had planned.

The second day was worse and tents were blowing away. At this point I convinced Mr YVL to upgrade to a static caravan. It had  a fridge, a cooker and a TV so all the luxuries I needed!! A bit of a light weight huh?

Well when I opened the cupboards there were 60s retro egg cups…

and WoodsWare utility Beryl ceramics…so all was right in the world!

It turns out we were staying in the antiques and vintage capital of Dorset; Bridport. There were at least 10 shops with a market twice a week too. Alongside this there was about 6 charity shops, so we had plenty of thrifting time.

1 of my favourite shops was a clothing shop run by the lovely Kate. I bought some treats there including a 1920s crochet pink bag. Kitty tried on this glorious 1950s dress but we reckon she would ruin it in a flash so didn’t buy it.

The other was a salvage reclamation shop crammed to the rafters with enamel, bottles, old signs, garden furniture…I could have spent hours there. The shop has no name but is opposite the cafe.

We went to Lyme Regis where I took this shot of the beach huts.

And we stopped on the way back at the vintage pumps.

We had a lovely time and thankfully the sun eventually shone. Mr YVL went crabbing with the kids and I sat back, thinking and planning our next steps for the business……

When we got back it was our first wedding anniversary. We went back to where we got married; a meadow at a water-mill and spent some time remembering the perfect day it was a year ago. I bought Mr YVL a magnolia tree. When he asked me to move in with him an age ago he bought me the same. But when we moved it remained in our old garden so I thought I would return the gesture 6 years on.

The rest of the week we have been gardening and getting organised. Our window boxes were planted….the playroom tidied and getting our lounge back now we have moved into new premises.

On Tuesday I went up to London with Herbie and my mummy to go to the Club to Catwalk exhibition at the V&A. The other 2 went off to see the dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum. I loved the 80s fashion and blogged about it here.

There was a bit of work: I had an interview with V&Oak magazine and an interview I did a few weeks back was published on the StitchCraftCreate blog. Read it here.

One of our enamel vintage jugs was featured in a Janice Issit’s home in Homes and Antiques magazine.

Finally yesterday was my birthday! The kids made me cake…

and I was bought these lovely flowers, displayed in my Murano vase.
