OOTD: A trip to the register office

Yesterday was my 40th birthday. Well, as the phrase goes: Life begins at 40! So how best to celebrate but to go to the register office and get married!

We had an amazing wedding day last Saturday enjoying an intimate and romantic ceremony under a large tree beside the river. This was a Humanist ceremony and in England this means we still needed to go to the register office to make it legal.

So what to wear?

I wore a 1950s original wedding dress on Saturday which was lace, long sleeves and a midi ballerina length. So for this ceremony I wanted something similar but not quite so bridal.

Some time ago we discussed getting married abroad. I found at this time a vintage 1960s Jean Varon dress that would have been perfect for a beach wedding. So, it felt fitting I wore it yesterday.

It was designed by John Bates who was one of the big designers of this era alongside the likes of Ossie Clarke. This dress is all one piece but looks like a top and skirt. The skirt is very full!

The top part is white lace with very thin straps. Around the waist is a line of embroidered daisies.

To co-ordinate I used a green 1960s American box bag. This has hand painted daisies all over.

I wore my red Miss L Fire shoes which were also worn for our big day.

My birdcage veil was made for me by Lil Mischief, a local company whohand make corsets, dresses as well as head pieces.

Mr YVL wore a 1960s navy 3 piece suit and an embroidered original skinny tie.

So what do you think??
