As us women know only too well, high street shops very rarely stock anything other than what is the latest trend. In the 1990’s, we had the boot cut jean. Then we fell in love with skinny jeans. Sadly, the ‘flare’ had very much become a thing of the past. Until now that is.
Following last year’s re-emergence on the fashion catwalks, the 1970’s flare has inevitably resurfaced on the high street rails. Prior to this, it was purely up to fate as to when I’d find my next flared find – a vintage warehouse, a local charity shop or even an elderly relative’s wardrobe clear out! But no longer. Now, I can simply browse H&M or Zara and have a wealth of options to choose from – ideal for a tall girl like me!
Now it mustn’t be forgotten that a lot of us choose to shop in vintage outlets because it adds an element of the unknown and lets our creative style minds run free. For me, this will never change, and with the mass production of any retro style, the danger is that everyone will begin to look the same all over again. But if you’re looking to reignite the 1970’s look and keep the ‘flare’ flame burning, I recommend you jump aboard and have a read below of how best to wear those trousers!
1) Denim on demin! Keep it simple and if you want add a stripey tee underneath.
2) A chunky heel is a must! It’s even better if the flares conceal the heel as it straightens the appearance of the leg making you look longer!
3) Always tuck in your tops to show off that high waist, further elongating the leg!
4) Blazers all the way! This helps to turn an outfit into a smart gathering or work related one.
5) You forgot the leather coat! If you want a more authentic, vintage look, get to know the colour tan very well.

Hooray! I’m so happy that flares are back, since I rocked them in the 90s. I would sometimes find them in the shops since, but rarely were the flares wide enough for my liking! I also agree that they should conceal the heels – there’s nothing worse than a load of material flapping around above the ankle!
I recently managed to get the perfect flares from Bank via warehouse – they were 17 down from 90, bargain! I think a lot of people may not be feeling brave enough yet!
I want a pair!! I like palazzos best as they are flattering on my thighs but will have to try some on and see x
