Our Fabulous Five: Half term fun for vintage loving families

It seems like Christmas is only just over but already February half term is upon us.  If you have children you will know that this week is filled with noise, later starts and having to come up with ideas to keep the little ones occupied!  If you don’t have children you’ll just notice the traffic is better and we would advise you to avoid cinemas and bowling alleys during the day!!!In today’s blog we offer up five on-line buys that will bring some extra fun to the week….

1.  There’s nothing better if the weather is bad than digging out a pile of vintage games and having a games tournament.   Buy lots of vintage games and puzzles such as this adorable mouse one from H is for Home.  Just don’t get too competitive!

2.  Its great to get out swimming with the kids.  Its fun and good exercise and great to know your children aren’t afraid of the water.  Look great while doing it wearing a vintage swimming costume – they are so flattering, cut well and still look amazing.

3.  When the sun’s shining a day out is just the ticket.  A great day out for lovers of great storytelling is the Roald Dahl museum and story centre in Buckinghamshire, where the author lived and worked for 36 years.  Most school age children just love his stories and most of us adults do too!

4.  Cooking with mum or dad (or any relative you love) is a great activity…and there’s the bonus of something yummy to eat at the end!  Source small vintage mixing bowls and trays or buy a cute kids baking set like the Le Creuset Junior range (also available in blue).

5.  A key part of many of our childhoods was getting on our bikes – give your kids the same sense of fun and freedom with a great bike to ride.  Vintage bikes can be picked up cheaply via eBay and Etsy and look great – just make sure you check over the tyres and brakes before you let anyone precious ride!  We love this vintage 1970s Triang yellow and blue childs bike available on Etsy.

Whatever you’re up to this half term…enjoy!  And remember, the memories we make with the children in our lives now will last with them forever.
