Copper continues to be on trend in our homes, so why not create a centre piece to wow your guests? What is great about this copper pipe candle holder, is that you can make it as small and simple or as big and ornate as you want; I have designed something large but simple – but you can add, or remove any piece you want for your design.
MATERIALS USED:
- 2m length of 15mm coper pipe
- 6 x 15mm to 22mm reducers
- 4 x T joints
- 2 x elbow joints
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
- 15mm pipe cutter
- Piper bender
- Heavy duty metal glue
- Hair dryer
HOW TO MAKE THIS PROJECT
Step 1: Cut out the central vertical length “the trunk” using the pipe cutter. I cut 25 cm for this piece
Step 2: Cut three slightly shorter lengths for the side arms “the branches” which now need to be bent. Use the pipe bender to create a right-angle bend in the same place on each one
TOP TIP:
Bending the pipe is easier if it is warm. Use a hair dryer to do this.
TOP TIP:
If you do not have a pipe bender, you could use extra elbow joints (which are a right-angle shape) to create the same effect.
Step 3: Position the branches next to the central trunk of pipe to decide where you want them to be positioned.
TOP TIP: It looks good if the top of the branches is higher than the central piece and all at the same height.
Step 4: Cut the central piece to allow for T joints which the branches will fit into. Place the T joints into the gaps and attach the branches to it. If needed, cut the tops of the branches to get the height you want.
Step 5: Create the base by bending both ends into a circular shape. Cut this piece at the central point.
Step 6: Attach a T joint to the centre of both base ends, positioning them with each curve facing the opposite way.
Step 7: Add an elbow joint to each end of the base so that the hole is facing upwards.
Step 8: Cut two small pieces of pipe (about 2cm) and add to the elbow joints.
Step 9: When you are happy with the design, glue all joints together. Leave to dry.
Step 10: Add to every end, a 15mm to 22mm connector as this is the perfect size for candles.
TOP TIP:
You may wish to use 22mm for the whole project, but I feel that it looks best in 15mm
