My Autumn Fashion Monochrome Wish List

Yes I know that it is still summer and thankfully it is gloriously sunny right now, but if you pick up any fashion magazine or go out onto the high street, you will see them packed with autumn fashion. While you may not be wanting to wear any of it right now, it is always good to plan ahead, right? I love autumn, in fact it is my favourite season for fashion – I love the colours and textures but most of all I love getting my coats and boots out!

One look I always love at this time, whether it is “on trend” or not is the monochrome look. It is timeless and perfect for a 1960s loving chick like me. I have a few vintage dresses in a classic dog tooth pattern such as this one, which I have teamed up with a bright pink coat to add colour. See the whole look here.

Our love of wearing black started in the 1920s with Coco Chanel’s 1926 little black dress – before this black was associated with mourning. But when I think of monochrome I think of Mary Quant in the 1960s with her A line mini dresses, white daisy or checkerboard patterns worn with long black patent go go boots.

So what is on this years monochrome wish list?

First up are these wide leg trousers from Pretty Retro, based on a classic 1940s swing pant. They look super flattering  – I love this shape as it makes my legs look longer and hides my boxy shape.

Imagine those trousers with these flippin’ amazing boots? I love the low cut shape as I can wear them with dresses, skirts as well as trousers, and the heel height means I can wear them every day! And the dog tooth print is iconic for this look.

Check out this vintage 1980s cape! It is truly gorgeous and is the perfect autumn fashion accessory as you never quite know if it will be hot or cold!

This dress is cute too isn’t it? It shows how you can get the monochrome look without choosing dog tooth. I love the fluted sleeves and length – perfect for those boots!

So what about accessories? For this look I would choose a black patent structured vintage bag or how about this gorgeous 1940s purse. The dog motif is awesome!

Hope this has given you some ideas to get the monochrome look? I am still dreaming of those boots!!
